soyMAIL is an application that allows authenticated Web access to OpenVMS Mail. All that is required is a (relatively) modern browser. soyMAIL has been developed and tested against;  Chrome 20+, Firefox 20+, MSIE 9/10/11, Opera 12 and Safari 6,  on MS Windows, OS X and iOS, as available.  JavaScript is essential to soyMAIL functionality.

soyMAIL supports:

• receiving and sending
  • native VMS Mail messages
  • Internet mail messages
  • MIME messaging and attachments
  • HTML format message text
  • messages of non-Latin characters and directionality
    (for example Arabic, Cyrillic, Greek, Hebrew)
• message searching
• contact (address) maintenance
• per-user options (including supported language)
• context-sensitive help

soyMAIL help (what you are currently reading) is accessed using the    button. It will initially present information (in a separate browser window) relevant to the soyMAIL function currently being used. Other sections of the available help subsequently can be accessed by using the menu buttons along the top of the page. Language-specific help is provided if available, otherwise content from the default English-language pages. A composite page of all help topics formatted suitable for printing is available using the    button. A browser print dialog is automatically invoked.

soyMAIL presents its pages as a series of panels. The first two are consistently present, others vary on the function being used. The first two panels comprise a main menu providing access to Mail folders and the major functions of soyMAIL. The second generally provides information on the success or otherwise of the latest action requested by the user. The status message on the left comprises the weekday and time (at the soyMAIL server, which may be different to browser-local time) of that action and a textual message. Care should be taken to note any information presented. To the right of the panel is shown the browser-local date and time.

soyMAIL is largely button-driven. Selecting a    segment adjacent to a button opens that function in a new window.  These child windows can be identified by the presence of a    button in the main menu. The primary soyMAIL window does not present such a button. Child windows are useful for reading and sending messages but the primary window should be used to provide a continuity of activity within soyMAIL.

soyMAIL release notes should be available and will advise on functionality improvements and changes (though on occasion address technical rather than usage items).
